My name is Neil Murphy. I was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. I first started drawing comics in high school. It all started quite by accident when I doodled a picture of my English teacher, Mr Brown, during class when I was supposed to be reading a book.
These are the drawings that started it all.
From there, I created other characters and started a comic strip which took place in a high school setting (of course). After high school, my drawing lay dormant until I finished Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. When I entered the workforce, I began drawing again. Mostly birthday cards, Christmas cards, and other special events for friends and family. Work eventually landed me in Ottawa Ontario, where I now reside.
In 2001, a newspaper article about web-based comics caught my attention. I did some research into it, and joined keenspace, now called comicgenesis, where I began planning a new comic strip. Over the next 6 months, the main characters, theme, and storylines were developed. Out of this was born my comic called "Straight Ahead". It's a comic strip about an every day guy named Phil Estabrooks and his struggle with his sexuality. The comic began in November of 2001 and continues with a weekly update schedule.
